I’ve added a new link on the sidebar to Airline Pilot Central. This site has been in my bookmarks for quite sometime, and is a world of information for folks interested in finding out about the current employment prospects and salaries for different world airlines. For example, if you go to “Cargo” and then “UPS” you’ll see that the top pay for a Captain on any of their aircraft types is $224/hour. I think I could get used to a salary like that. :-)

Today, in the world of aviation, I am thankful for the island of St. Maarten and it’s Maho Beach for providing us aviation nuts with some of the most spectacular pictures of landing aircraft in the world.

Are you flying somewhere on Thanksgiving day tomorrow? If so, and your airline happens to be Jet Blue, you’re in for a treat.

JetBlue Airways is offering a bonus to fliers on Thanksgiving Day [,] a free beer to accompany football games on its seat-back satellite TVs. The National Football League’s Miami Dolphins-Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Dallas Cowboys games will be among the programming on 36 channels of DirecTV that JetBlue offers for free.

This story caught my eye on the Airliners.net forums today. Apparently, a British Airways groundcrew member was caught trying to smuggle cocaine out of the country in the nosecone of a 747. Certainly brings a new meaning to an airplane being “high” up.

When I first saw this picture I was in complete awe. It’s taken from a small “viewing bubble” on top of the USAF Blue Angels’ Fat Albert support aircraft. The KC-130 Hercules is taking off with a little boost from some JATO rockets. Hold on to your seat!

You might notice that you can no longer see the “Picture of the Day” entries on the main page. I’ve done this because I don’t always write a normal entry every day, and the PoD entries were pushing stuff off of the main page too quickly. Therefore, in order to see the PoD entries (until I decide where to put a proper link) you will need to select the “Picture of the Day” category from the left-hand menu.
